Pertimali di Livo Sassetti is considered among the greatest of all Brunello di Montalcino wines. Unusual for the zone, a Pertimali Brunello is almost Burgundian in style - in youth the wines can be somewhat unforthcoming, but as they mature they unfold beautifully. This can be at least partly attributed to the Montosoli hill on which the estate's vineyards are sited; the cru is famous for producing wines that are a perfect balance of the power and richness of southern Montalcino with the finesse...

Il Poggione 2007 Rosso Di Montalcino
WA 91pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: The 2007 Rosso di Montalcino is a soft, floral wine with pretty red fruits that meld into tobacco, spices and minerals. The wine possesses lovely inner perfume to match its accessible personality. The 2007 is a relatively open vintage for the Rosso, and while I donメt see this vintage making old bones, it should offer highly pleasurable drinking over the next few years at a minimum. In 2007 Bindocci decided to de-stem 70% of the fruit, which yielded an especially...

"The 2007 Rosso di Montalcino is a decidedly firm, imposing Rosso packed with fruit. Readers should not mistake this for an easygoing wine. It is anything but that. This richly textured, powerful Rosso flows onto the palate with superb richness in its dark red fruit, smoke, minerals and tobacco. Everything is supported by firm yet sweet tannins all the way through to the finish where a blast of tar adds a final note of complexity. Pacenti is in a class with few peers when it comes to Rosso di Montalcino...

Montalcino is an intriguing growing zone, the soil, geography, hydrology and elevation all add specifics to an equation that has many answers. The 2006 Ferrero Rosso di Montalcino comes from the southwestern portion of Montalcino where the words hot and dry are front and center. Incredibly this is the opposite of the versante Senese (slope towards Siena) which is rife with springs and water abounds and the sun goes down early behind the ridge the town of Montalcino sits upon. Claudia Ferrero and...

The winery Fornacina is situated just outside the town of Montalcino, surrounded by its vineyards. The Biliorsi family produces the Brunello di Montalcino according to the tradition, a passion passed on for generations. Ruggero Biliorsi is the founder of the winery, where the first bottle of Brunello goes back to 1981; it is now run by his son Simon with the collaboration of his brother Mauro, maintaining the same values of the grounds where it all began. With the consultancy of winemaker Attilio...

Rosso di Montalcino
Rosso di Montalcino has an intense ruby-red colour. It is medium-bodied, with good concentration in the mid-palate. The palate is elegant and well-balanced with captivating flavours of red fruits, violet, menthol and earth, all characteristics of Argiano’s terroir. A generous wine with smooth and velvety tannins that will please all Sangiovese lovers.

Valdicava Rosso di Montalcino 2006
Valdicava’s 2006 Rosso di Montalcino is a very serious Rosso. Notes of scorched earth, tar, sweet dark fruit and smoke flow from its richly-textured, full-bodied frame. As it sits in the glass wild herb and tobacco overtones develop, giving this sweet, dense wine another dimension of complexity. This is one of the more large-scaled, structured 2006 Rossos readers are likely to come across. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2013.

Brunello's "younger brother," produced from select Sangiovese grapes and aged in barrique for 10 to 12 months. Intense ruby-red color. Fruit-forward aromas reminiscent of blackberries and plums, with light notes of tobacco and coffee. The structure is very concentrated and balanced. Long finish.

Le Potazzine Gorelli Rosso di Montalcino
International Wine Cellar Ripe, scented nose is redolent of red cherry, raspberry syrup, sandalwood and sweet spice. Dense and juicy, this alluringly ripe, fruity midweight tastes sweet and lush but has excellent flavor definition thanks to bright acids that lift its red berry, cherry and mineral flavors. Finishes almost fat, with sophisticated tannins and a creamy quality to its lingering aftertaste. Absolutely superb Rosso. Though they could make as many as 38,000 bottles of Brunello, this estate...

This plush, deep wine always sets the benchmark for a fresh, contemporary take on Rosso di Montalcino. It always has an extra little bit of character, depth, richness, length and balance. Despite that richness this is a dry wine that shows classic cherry fruit and supple tannins. It all starts and ends for me with the Uccelliera Rosso as her wonderful personality keeps me excited about what this style of wine always offers, unadulterated love.

Fattoria dei Barbi Rosso di Montalcino
This wine has the same characteristic of Brunello but with an easier approach. The grapes of Sangiovese come from the younger vineyards which produce aromatic and elegant wines with a medium body. It is the ideal every day companion for family meals. Lively ruby red colour. It possesses a rich nose which exhibits fruity fragrances, especially cherry and sour black cherry, accompanied by spicy notes suggesting black pepper and sweet tobacco. In the mouth this wine is warm, with a good structure and...

The grape harvest normally occurs during the first two weeks of October. The production is approximately 50 ql per hectar, because of the first selection made during august. Fermentation occurs at controlled temperature and after the wine -making process, there is a period of ageing of 12 months inside french oak casks, tonneaux and Barriques, followed by then a bottle refinement of minimum 6 months.

($38) Bright, full red. Lovely lift to the aromas of flowers, strawberry, red cherry and red licorice. Dense and lush, with a seamless quality to its ripe red fruit and sweet oak flavors, this is solidly structured, layered and very deep. Perhaps a bit less refined and graceful on the long, suave finish than the '06, but it's a knockout Rosso and very expressive of sangiovese.

Region : Italy As the world’s top wine-exporter, Italy is an important wine region both because of the amount and quality of wines produced. Just two grapes—Nebbiolo and Sangiovese—are used to make some of the finest Italian wines, including Barolo, Brunello de Montalcino and Chianti. Still, Italy is home to dozens of wine grape varieties, with important wines being made from Corvina, Barbera, Cortese, Moscato and traditionally French varietals. The major wine regions include Piedmont, Tuscany, Emilia...
