150B.C .: Hero of Alexandria , an ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician, made a early form of turbine engine. Mounting a sphere on top of a water kettle, a wood fire burning below the the kettle, turned the water into steam, which travelled though pipes into the sphere. With 2 L shaped tubes opposite sides of the sphere allowed the gas to escape, which caused the sphere to rotate.

The 80's and 90's brought back the truck frame to the SUV. Ford still has engines that need at least both hands and all fingers to count your cylinders (the 10 cylinder Excursion). They're affectionately called land barges. Some seem larger than small school buses; they're capable of carrying a soccer team in a single trip! The disappearance of the savusauna encouraged the growth of Finland's sauna industry. Obviously, the savusauna, with its hundreds of kilos of rocks and logs, was not a marketable item. But the new, metal-cased stoves were. The vented, continuous woodburning stove was manufactured for countryside saunas and, immediately after World War II, electric and gas-heated stoves began heating city saunas. In the beginning, the home market in Finland was lucrative enough to satisfy the growing industry...
