I should stop here and tell you that I shut every one of Pioneer’s enhancements off for these and the rest of my tests. That meant no noise reduction (analog or digital), no color transient enhancement, no black stretch or contrast enhancement, and no dynamic contrast. Maybe you’ll need those for analog SD signals, but they’ll just muck things up with HD programs. As for bandwidth, the PRO-110FD did just fine with luminance multiburst patterns all the way to 37.5 MHz, using both 1080i and 720p analog...

I fed the signal from an LG BD300 Blu-ray player at 1080i resolution and let the Pioneer clean it up — a job well done. Absolutely no judder was seen, thanks to the PRO-111FD’s film processing mode. (The BD3000 does not process 1080p cleanly). This is not a movie with screaming color saturation, as most scenes are filmed in shadows, or with unflattering light. In a word – wow. Pioneer has really outdone itself this time, raising the bar for all competing display technologies when it comes to 1080p imaging. (And it’s only going to get better with their next-gen plasmas this summer!) The only nit I could pick was the formulation of the green phosphor, which doesn’t have enough yellow in it to completely cover the REC.709 gamut. (And how about naming the inputs instead of numbering them, Pioneer?)
