Another way to go with the Derby would be dressed-to-the-nines formal. If you attend the Kentucky Derby, wearing my Derby might be a good way to get on TV when they feature great hats. (Just for the record, I grew up in Kentucky and this is the hat I wore last Derby Day while mixing family recipe mint juleps. Served in Kentucky-made sterling julep cups, of course. The best way to gauge the quality of the weave is to count the number of weaves per square inch. Fewer than 300 would be considered low quality. Panama Hats are called by that name because during the building of the panama railroad a local dealer happened to have some "toquilla" straw hats from Ecuador. Tourist took the hats home and referred to them as "panama hats". Panama hats come in different "grades" or qualities. The hat weaving process determines the grade of the hat. Hat weaving is done entirely by hand and a great deal of time is required to weave a panama body. The finer the weave of the hat, the higher the grade.
