This Navajo bracelet has a row of bezel set gemstones that include turquoise, lapis, onyx, coral and others. There is a rope design accenting the top and bottom band, and small beads on both sides of the row of gemstones. The inside of the bracelet is marked "EVB," and it measures 6 1/2" x 3/4" at the widest point. It is, however, adjustable for smaller and larger wrists. I have lightly polished it, and on request will give it a more thorough cleaning before shipping. A great bracelet for either...

It features a very nice raw aqua turquoise nugget. This stone is natural, irregular in shape but close to oval, and is sawtooth bezel set. The stone appears as it was found in nature without cutting it into a regular symmetrical shape. It has dark gray matrix showing through, and the added silver berries and sculpted leaves are cuddling up to the stone. This piece is in excellent condition and express the love of nature and culture that Native American Indian jewelry portrays.

Navajo Silver and Turquoise Bracelet with Twelve Round Stones Surrounding a Large Oval Stone, on a 5-Split Silver Cuff

|
As is the case more often that not with the earlier Native American jewelry, this piece is not marked for silver content or maker. However, I guarantee that it is coin silver (.900/90%) or sterling silver (.925/92.5%). Bracelet measures 1" wide at center, narrows to 1/2" wide at the terminals, with a 5-1/2" inside end to end, plus an additional 1 1/4" gap, and weighs 35 grams. Excellent vintage condition.

Despite being one of the oldest gems, probably first introduced to Europe (through Turkey) with other Silk Road novelties, turquoise did not become important as an ornamental stone in the West until the 14th century, following a decline in the Roman Catholic Church's influence which allowed the use of turquoise in secular jewelry. It was apparently unknown in India until the Muhgal period, and unknown in Japan until the 18th century. A common belief shared by many of these civilizations held that...

Turquoise is one of the most valuable, non-transparent minerals in the jewelry trade. It has been mined for eons since at least 6000 BC by early Egyptians. Today, it is more popular than ever and its use around the world is prolific. The most valuable Turquoise has special characteristics; it is naturally hard the way it was found and is a bright sky blue. Certain Native Americans called turquoise "Chal-cui-hui-tal", meaning "the highest and most valued thing in the world". Many believe the stone...
