Planting & Growing: Start seeds indoors 4—6 weeks before the last frost, or sow directly once soil temperatures have reached at least 70°F. Pinch ends during development for a bushy plant. Basil has a very low germination rate; it is not uncommon to have germination rates of 60%. Sow heavily and thin to the most vigorous seedlings. Basil will not perform below 50°F; pot indoors during winter for a year-round supply.
