Great Merlot has been a hallmark of Mill Creek for over 30 years Mill Creeks Merlot has even been served at the White House during the Reagan administration. Bill Kreck firmly believes that Merlot is not a blending grape and should be allowed to stand on its own, and this wine supports his assertion. The family uses only estate-grown grapes, and ages their Merlot in American and French oak barrels for 14 months. This wine has the refinement and concentration to match a $25 to $30 Right Bank Bordeaux...

- Second in fame only to Napa, this "other" valley offers just about every climate and topography imaginable. From its cool and fog-enshrouded coastal regions on the far west, to the sprawling Alexander Valley on the boarder of Napa and the many little dips and peaks in between, Sonoma has been a vital wine-grape-growing region since the mid 1800s. Important sub-AVAs include Chalk Hill (known for chardonnay and sauvignon blanc), Dry Creek Valley (where zin is king) Knights Valley (largely cabernet...

For our Bench Vineyards Merlot, two sites were chos en in northern Dry Creek Valley: the Pedroncelli Estate Vineyards along Dry Creek Road east of the winery, and Jasper Long’s vineyard, a couple of miles down the road from our own vineyard. The name chosen for this vineyard blend describes the natural terraces that flank Dry Creek Valley and rise gradually into the steep hills. Characterized by sloped topography and gravelly/rocky residual soils, the “Bench Vineyards” offer unique growing conditions...

Though recently bottled and still a youngster, our 02 Syrah is full of promise for a fabulous future! Approachable and beautifully balanced, the wine offers up ripe blackberry and black plum notes, woven with intriguing smoky mocha, leather and a dash of white pepper. Firm, round tannins provide structure and age-ability and a voluptuous, silky mouth feel and long lingering finish complete the experience.

Description: This beautiful Dry Creek Valley Merlot begins with ripe blackberry and currant aromas with a trace of vanilla. On the palate, a broad and expansive tapestry of flavors reveals black cherry, cassis, and dark chocolate, layered with chewy tannins. The finish remains textured and rich, but has a softer edge that expresses tremendous length and balance. For most folks, Merlot is “persona non-grata,” however, don’t overlook this gem – this truly is a Merlot for Cabernet lovers!

Dry Creek Vineyard Bullock House Merlot 2002
Originally part of our reserve bottling, this is the first year Dry Creek Vineyard has made a single-vineyard designated Merlot. At first swirl, rich layers of chocolate, espresso and blackberry envelop the nose. On the palate, the wine is well balanced and concentrated with a complex array of earthy currant, vibrant cherry, vanilla and spice flavors. This wine is smooth and supple, with a long, elegant and richly textured finish.

At Frei Brothers Winery, we craft our wines in a gentle, traditional style enhanced through the use of modern technology that makes fruit the focus and showcases the best that each varietal and appellation have to offer. The grapes for Frei Brother Reserve Merlot were destemmed, but not crushed, to retain a significant portion of whole berries for fermentation. We find that whole berry fermentation produces concentrated dark fruit flavors in the finished Merlot. Both upright and horizontal rotary...

"Here is a deep and well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc that is full of keenly-defined varietal character, and, while long on herbs and fresh grass, it is also near the head of the class when it comes to substantial fruit. It is a big wine whose richness points the way to successful pairing with the likes of salmon and tuna, and, if impressive right now, it has the right pieces in place to ensure three to five years of guaranteed growth. GOOD VALUE."
