"Bright plum and boysenberry fruit here, with spice and hints of chocolate and minerals. A touch rigid on the finish, but well done."

Louis Bernard Cotes du Rhone Villages
As an AOC, the wines of the Côtes du Rhône-Villages must conform to certain rules outlined by the INAO, or the Institute Nationale d’Appellation Controllee. These include requiring that the main varietal, Grenache, be blended with Cinsault, Syrah or Mourvedre. The minimum degree of alcohol is higher while the maximum grape yield allowed is smaller than the regional Cote du Rhone.

What an amazing bottle of wine for the price. Very intense cherry and red berries on the nose and a fruity, medium-bodied palate with round soft tannins. Very nice everyday quaffing wine.

Louis Bernard Cotes du Rhone Villages 2007 is a soft, juicy, friendly style, with dark plum, toast and cocoa notes, followed by a fleshy, easygoing finish. Drink now. 80,000 cases made. -JM, Wine Spectator, Score: 87

Many different grape varieties are grown here and then blended together, with Syrah and Grenache dominating. The Louis Bernard adds a touch of Carignane to those two, making for a medium-bodied wine with a light meaty character, wrapped in fruity notes of raspberry and cherry and finished with a light, peppery spice. Its tannins are firm and dry.

Medium crimson to cranberry appearance with slight unfiltered haze. Raspberry, cherry, Belgian milk chocolate, Madagascar vanilla and hints of nutmeg combine to make a pleasing aroma. Ripe and sweet-tart around the edges, dry on the tongue with youthful mild tannins. Chocolate covered raspberry and cherry flavors finish firmly with a hint of pepper, not to mention a real "kick". This red is on the money and is arguably more effective than a box of Godiva chocolates at 1/3 the price. $12.99

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape...

Nestled in the hills just below the spectacular perched village of Bonnieux, this idyllic property is run by Jean-Pierre and Martine Margan. The building is from the 17th century and has been inhabited ever since. Springing from the hill is a very strong fountain which supplies abundant amounts of water in even the driest years and the rolling hills behind the property are covered with grape vines, truffle oak trees and 200 year old cherry trees. The Margans know that they have something very special...

This is one of my favorite Cotes due Rhone wines and always reliable vintage after vintage. Around our house this is what we pull out for burgers or sausages on the grill with baked beans. Consistently good quality and value.

A 'Best Buy' from Wine Spectator. I am a big fan of wines from the Southern Rhone. I think this wine is better than the excellent 2000 vintage. Who said you can't find great value in France! Nice red fruit and black pepper.
