Continued in "Cons"... Cons: Fortunately, and undocumentedly, the fourth mode, "Wireless Repeater" (which is NOT what I was trying to do!) actually does exactly what I want. It leaves the original WRT54G open to wireless clients, as well as repeating the signal for added coverage, BUT what's terrific is that if you plug a switch into the WAP54G (DON'T use the "uplink" port on the switch), the "Wireless Repeater" mode does actually create a perfectly-operating bridge to the other side of the network...
