Morellino Di Scansano is just behind Grosseto. This was the first deployment of wine outside of Chianti 15 years ago. Now it has been bypassed by the Maremma, which is also in the same region. Very dark garnet color with delicious aromas of ripe fruit, oranges and réglisse. Medium-bodied with delicious fruit and many layers of aromas. A long finish (20 seconds) on nice fruit. Ideal with big roasts, barbecues, stracotto, and big cheeses.

The 2004 Morellino di Scansano Riserva is another irresistible offering. It reveals an additional layer of density and vibrancy than the regular bottling, with attractive notes of black cherries, licorice, smoke and toasted oak. Morellino Di Scansano is a varietal that comes from the Sangiovese. It grows mainly in Maremma, the region near the sea near Grossetto. The region was, until about 8 years ago, a region where cattle were grazing but, since the price of land in Chianti was so high, the viticulturists began to buy land in Maremma and planted vineyards.
