Kewpie 1949 Doll
Rose O'Neill first drew illustrations of her elfin doll in 1912 and by 1913 more than 5 million Kewpies had been sold. In 1949, the Effanbee Doll Company created the first hard plastic versions of the popular doll and today presents an exciting vinyl replica for its 50th anniversary. Accurate to the last detail, this timeless creation even wears a romper based on the clothes she wore fifty years ago. She features jointed arms, legs and neck. 12". This unique character doll is painted bisque with a mole on his right cheek. He also features a turn of the century red and white striped, long bathing costume. He and his rare bisque boat are in nice condition, without damage, measuring 3-1/2" tall, 4-1/4" long. He is also valuable for the mark, "Germany 4347" incised on the back of the boat.

Top of the mornin' to ya, or Guten Tag in the native language of this antique kewpie or cupie doll. He is a character bisque, as can be seen from his impish look and jaunty step. His clothing is very genteel - formal shirt, green bowtie, three-button waistcoat, short trousers, high brown boots and a notched-collared topcoat. The back of the coat is softly draped from the shoulders, creating folds in which he is impressed with the mark 4545. He wears a jolly green top hat with a casual lilt.
