After growing up in the Champagne region, Cécile Lemerle-Derbès knew the wine business would be her calling and in 2001, she and her husband purchased their Russian River Valley property to start their winery. Well-balanced with the right amount of acidity to even out the fruit tones, we especially like its smooth mouth feel and finish.

Ketcham Estates is a partnership between Mark Ketcham and Steve Rigisich who bought a 16- acre vineyard in the heart of the Russian River Valley. The 2007 Ketcham Estate Pinot Noir, their most limited wine, comes from the Estate vineyard just off of Eastside road in the Russian River Valley. The property has many microclimates within the small twelve acre lot, mostly due to changing soils and a small creek that lines the western border. This diversity as well as the many Dijon and Pommard clones...

Ketcham Estate Russian River Pinot Noir 2006
The nose is pure Russian River Valley with our vineyards signature spice and bright cherry and raspberry fruits. The wines from our vineyard always show firm acidity, and this vintage is, again, firm and snappy. The palate has red fruit, mineral, spice and cola, and shows a softer side than the 2005.

Davis Bynum is distinguished as the first winery to produce a single vineyard pinot noir from Russian River Valley. The vintage was 1973 and the grapes were from Joe Rochioli’s now prized vineyard. Today, more than thirty years later, the heritage of Davis Bynum lives on through hand crafted pinot noir and chardonnay grown exclusively in Russian River Valley.

Very true to its varietal ..light in color but medium in body. Immediate aroma red fruit and rose. Bigger taste than its color would suggest with red current and vanilla as well as a lot of acidity. Just a bit of a tart impression on the finish (that continues nicely).

92 points from Robert Parker: "Dramatic notes of red and black fruits, spring flowers, forest floor, and earth jump from the glass of the 2007 Pinot Noir Widdoes Vineyard. It exhibits sweet tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and excellent fruit purity, texture, and length. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Sean Capiaux (who is also the winemaker for OShaughnessy on Howell Mountain) makes his own wines under the Capiaux Cellars label. He appears to have hit home runs with these early released ...

2007 Strong, Rodney Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley
|
|
|
92 Points Robert Parker: "The 2007 Pinot Noir Estate, which comes from the Rochioli clone of Pinot Noir, exhibits sandy, loamy soil notes intermixed with sweet raspberry and black cherries. The wine is medium to full-bodied, displays noble ripe tannins, and good freshness. This wine should drink nicely for 5-6 years... This is a source for very fine Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs at some of the most realistic prices to be found in Northern California ."

- Although technically part of Sonoma Valley, the Alexander Valley AVA acts as a gateway to neighboring Napa to the east and Mendocino to the north. It is a sprawling appellation, with pockets of distinct microclimates and soils, and as such, is home to variety of wine grapes and styles. Nearly everything grows in the Alexander Valley, though cabernet and chardonnay are the most widely planted grapes. The Russian River Valley lies to the west of Alexander Valley, and is marked by much cooler temperatures...
