Concert promoters created handbill versions of many of their posters and used them as sidewalk handouts and dashboard fliers to promote upcoming shows. Many of the handbills are double-sided, with poster art on one side and a calendar of upcoming shows on the other. These handbills represent an important element of rock concert history because they were hands-on marketing tools that united promoter and patron.

Returning to a full CD's worth of material, Cope on 20 Mothers creates 20 songs, covering a wide variety of topics as opposed to the general concept records from his then-recent past. Everything from reestablishing contact with his estranged brother Joss ("Wheelbarrow Man") to vegetarianism, bandmates, his mother-in-law, and even Kurt Cobain get touched on, as discussed in his entertaining liner notes. It's a bit of a fractured record as a result, but no less interesting for it, containing the range...

BLACK SHEEP is Julian Cope's new album for 2008CE, and is a musical exploration of what it is to be an outsider in modern Western Culture. Across 11 songs and one epic poem, Cope examines the idea of social outcasts and how they - through their sheer obstinacy and strength of personality - carve a path for themselves in the normal world, often changing societyis own concepts of normality in the process. On BLACK SHEEP, Cope attributes his personal descent into outsider-dom to his 9th birthday on...

FLOORED GENIUS 2, covering sessions recorded for BBC Radio between 1983 and 1989, captures Cope's Syd Barrett-esque whimsy in full flower. These tracks strip the gloss from familiar songs, allowing listeners to hear what Cope must have heard in his head before producers attempted to turn his offbeat songs into hit singles. FLOORED GENIUS 2's key tracks are the six songs cut between 1983 and 1984. Still reeling from the split of The Teardrop Explodes, Cope recorded totally solo, backing himself with...

Julian Cope's album You Gotta Problem With Me is another protest album in the tradition of his previous releases Peggy Suicide , Jehovahkill , Autogeddon , Citizen Cain and Dark Orgasm . Unlike most records by Cope's head in the sand punk rock contemporaries, Y ou Gotta Problem With Me deals primarily with such controversial issues as religion, xenophobia and self doubt brought on by a combination of the war in Iraq, the 9/11 bombings and the EEC's latest huge wave of migrants from former Communist...
