JACOB'S LADDER MEZUZAH
UK09220 - JACOB'S LADDER MEZUZAH UNIQUE 7. The commandment to affix a mezuzah is widely followed in the Jewish world, even by Jews who are not religiously observant. While the important part of the mezuzah is the "klaf", or parchment, and not the case itself, designing and producing mezuzah cases has been elevated to an art form over the ages. Mezuzahs are produced from an endless variety of materials, from silver and precious metals, to wood, stone, ceramics, and pewter. In fact, the beauty of many...

Jacob's Ladder, Henry Gee
Gee is at his most engaging about these genetic pioneers. Although the dramatis personae -- William Harvey and the biologist Ernst Haeckel, Charles Darwin and Gregor Mendel -- are well known to readers of science books, Gee spins their contributions to what he calls the ''unbroken skein'' of knowledge into a readable and insightful story.

Eventually reaching the limits of what he could learn on his own, he decided to seek out a Mussar teacher. This was not an easy task, since almost the entire world of the Mussar tradition had been wiped out in the Holocaust. In time, he found an accomplished master who stood in an unbroken line of transmission of the Mussar tradition, and who lived in the center of a community of Orthodox Jews on Long Island. This book tells the story of Morinis’s journey to meet his teacher and what he learned from...

Though well educated, Jacob works as a letter...

I used this project with 3rd-5th grade Girl Scouts (for the Folk Arts badge). They loved it! The wood pieces are thin compared to a typical Jacob's Ladder, but it was such a unique toy, they didn't seem to mind. The directions have a couple of errors, but hopefully that gets fixed. An adult needs to read and understand the directions ahead of time - it is a bit of a challenge, but so worth it. It took about 30-40 minutes for the girls to finish. The only downside is that each project needs 15 pieces...

New - Jacob Smith, a prominent black lawyer and political and civil rights leader in New York in the segregated 1950s, was assassinated when his son, Jock, was eight years old. If this memoir told only of a child's loving remembrance of his father (and a desire to follow in his footsteps, thus "Climbing Jacob's Ladder"), it would be a success. But Jock Smith grew up to become a lawyer himself, a college professor, one of the first African-American assistant attorneys general in Alabama, and then
