Iron and Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC)
The total iron binding capacity (TIBC) blood test measures the amount of iron that can be stored in the blood. One way that iron is transported in the blood is bound to a molecule called transferrin. The TIBC blood test measures the ability of transferrin to carry iron in the blood including the maximum amount of iron that can be attached to transferrin.
