Brokenwood Shiraz Hunter Valley Reg. 35.17
Inky violet color. Cherry-cola, blueberry, new leather, spices and violet on the nose. Densely packed and sweet, with complex flavors of fresh red berries, blueberry and cracked pepper. A rather suave shiraz that already shows good complexity. Finishes classically dry, with silky tannins and a late note of sweet dark berries. I’d still give this a bit of time in bottle. Deep ruby. Highly pungent, sexy bouquet of raspberry, cherry, smoked meat, iron and violet: this is really syrah. Spicy, sweet flavors of dark berries and minerals are nicely framed by silky tannins. Gains energy on the finish, which repeats the sweet berry qualities and leaves a brisk trail of minerals behind. This is already delicious.

Brokenwood Hunter Valley Semillon 2007 Rated 90IWC
Pale yellow. Strikingly complex nose displays fresh grapefruit, floral honey, apple and pear aromas. Brisk citrus flavors give way to deeper orchard fruits and melon with air, picking up a waxy quality and dusty minerals on the back. This is already quite complex: I'd enjoy it now for its lively fruit even though I'm sure that it will age well for another five years or so.

Fruit for this uniquely regional style of wine is hand-harvested, chilled and pressed prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh, aromatic fruit characters inherent to Hunter Semillon. On release, it is a luminous green/yellow colour, the nose offering lifted zesty, lemongrass aromas with some sweet apple blossom notes. The citrus dominated palate shows lime and cut grass flavors with typical tight structure, low alcohol and nervy acidity running the length of the wine.
