Description For the casual blues fan with a scant knowledge of the Wolf, this 1971 pairing, with Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts from the Rolling Stones, Ringo Starr, and other British superstars, appears on the surface to be one hell of a super session. Although that's not really the case, it's nowhere near as awful as some blues purists make it out to be. Cub Koda, All Music Guide

October 13, 2000: There is no doubt that this isn't the Wolf's best work, but there are some good moments. Clapton now disparages the sessions and his work on them, but he still blazes on some of the tracks. Wolf is clearly over the hill, and the ''lesson'' he gives the rock stars on ''Little Red Rooster'' is either sad or hilarious, depending on your point of view. But listen to ''Poor Boy'' and then decide whether this disk has any merit. Just because the guy was older doesn't mean his...

Although "The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions" was not a high point in the careers of either Howlin' Wolf or the guest superstars Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Stevie Winwood, and Ringo Starr, it's not as bad as some blues purists make it out to be. This deluxe edition two-CD set pads out the original with an entire disc of previously unreleased alternate takes/alternate mixes (and three tracks from the same sessions that eventually showed up on the 1974 compilation "London Revisited", which...

London Howlin' Wolf Sessions [Deluxe Edition]

|
|
Of all the bluesmen Howlin' Wolf was perhaps the one with the closest thing to a rock and roll heart. The riffsand that voice were right out of the back alley's and barrooms of some forgotten street in a place time forgot. This1971 session finds Wolf backed by London's rock royalty. Musicians include Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood,Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman. The sound is raw and moving. This edition comes with an extra disc of twelvealternates and remixes from the originals session. This is...
