My daughter bought this today with her gift card. The dog has not left her hands all day. I never thought of getting her one because I thought she may be too young (5). She can work it easily adn knows just what to do. I have never played with a regular iDog so I don't know how much better it is (ie worth the extra $). All I know is that my daughter loves it and it seems to be pretty durable.
