The GS1000 updates the retro look (though these still have a very retro feel) of previous Grado's with more contemporary styled, hand-crafted mahogany earcups and much larger foam earpads. The redesigned driver and better ear placement (due to bigger earpads) creates a "room" for the ears to sit, creating a larger soundstage and greater spatial experience for the listener. The headband is covered in real leather as well for a vast improvement (the best?) in looks, performance and comfort.

Besides their appearance, which is that of a metal GS1000, one might well first recognize the weight of these headphones. Those who are familiar with my systems know that I own the PS1's and have owned over the years about a dozen HP-1000 series, the older Joseph Grado studio monitor headphones.
