Beautiful and very old circa early 1800 to mid 1800 seed pearl brooch strung with white horse hair onto a mother-of-pearl backing and then outlined with a gold frame on the back to prevent breakage. These frames were added circa 1850-1865. The gold backing is very nice and has a small loop on the top so a loop for a pendant could be added. The piece measures almost 1 1/4 inches in length and the same in width. No missing pearls. Working c-clasp, and no damage. Lovely piece.

Presenting a splendid example of English Georgian Mourning Jewelry made during the reign of King George III. This 10 KT rose gold brooch depicts an elaborate design, painted with sepia on ivory. This navette/marquise-shaped miniature work of art commemorates the passing of a loved one. The sepia depicts a woman, considered a representation of the Madonna, holding a staff for comfort. The garlanded urn is the Greek symbol of mourning, while the weeping willow is Nature's symbol of sorrow and mourning...

The ring consists of a double band of parallel lines, with identically set stones, set apart by a fraction of an inch so that they are staggered. The lines consist of the following stones respectively: a sapphires, two small diamonds, a ruby, two small diamonds, a sapphire. This makes for a highly attractive and interesting ring. Petite and finely worked, especially considering the limited technology available at the time.

The artistry of a master carver shows in the details of this marvelous Georgian style box. The box comes with its original key, although the locking mechanism is a little tight and would benefit from a little oil. Although unmarked, it is likely from circa 1920s. It measures 5'' X 7 1/2'' X 3'' high. The corners are mitered and held together with 3'' long rectangular wooden wafers; the bottom is nailed. The box is in excellent condition and would grace any collection with high honors.

Rose-cut diamonds belong to the ‘antique’ family of diamonds introduced as early as the 1500’s. By mid-16th century, various forms of the rose-cut were developed, derived from the preceding types of cuts. A flat base and a crown composed of triangular facets constitute the basic characteristics of rose-cut diamonds the name of which derives from a visible resemblance to the petals of a rose bud. Although mostly circular in outline, other variations such as the oval-shape 'briolette’, the hexagonal...

Integrated Approach - Georgian College(May 1998)
I visited Georgian last December, as the students were wrapping up their end-of-semester projects. I poked around for a few minutes, observing the close quarters students worked in. The three classrooms are clustered together, with the first- and third-year rooms adjoining an equipment room. For the lapidary students, a small section had been partitioned off, which included four polishing machines and a split lap. The general area included everything from a draw bench, drill press, and two rolling...

The inner scene is of a young girl in a white dress with pink ribbon around her waist and pink shoes and plumed straw hat. She and the little Spaniel dog at her feet are chasing after a bird that takes off above a bush with bright pink roses. In the distance, a lightly painted fountain plays from the mouth of a Classical/mythological sculpture. Finely painted trees in the background. The scene is classic Georgian and quite beautifully executed with absolute charm and grace.

Extraordinary pair of gold Georgian brooches, circa 1810. Often a pair of bracelets or brooches were presented upon one's engagement. One would be given for an engagement gift and one upon betrothal. Perhaps a gift for two daughters...We could always hypothesize... The gold work is called cannetille, the process of using fine spirals of gold that are twisted to create patterns. It is time consuming and required great skill, therefore only the finest jewelry would incorporate this type of work. In...
