- The white grape of Burgundy, and probably the most familiar name to American consumers. In Burgundy, the name of the grape generally does not appear on the label-only the place where it was grown (e.g. Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, etc.). It is also the grape of Chablis, where it's habit of early ripening puts it at risk for Spring freezes and hailstorms. It is responsive to a wide variety of wine-making techniques, and use in Champagne as well. The American style has often been to put Chardonnay...

"The 1998 Extra Brut Vintage Celebris is a beautifully focused, linear wine that sparkles on the palate with the essence of white peaches, pears, quince and flowers. This medium-bodied yet structured wine offers phenomenal persistence, along with chalky, minerally notes that give the wine its superb liveliness and sense of freshness. Like many wines in this line-up, the 1998 Extra Brut Vintage Celebris is a beautiful, contemplative wine that deserves serious attention. This is a great effort. The...

The Bollinger R.D. (recently disgorged) is Bollingers answer to a prestige cuvée. Keeping the wine long on its lees (this was disgorged in June 2006) yields a wine that is very much in the rich Bollinger style. This is a beautifully balanced wine, with acidity, intensity and structure in perfect harmony. It is still so young, and certainly could age for years. Score: 97. Roger Voss, November 01, 2006. Revered Bollinger rarity that's on the top of every Champagne fan's wish list. This Bollinger champagne R.D (Recently Degorge) is composed of the same blend as the Grande Annee. The conservation is however longer, 8 years minimum. It is a rare experience for your senses. Elegance, sensibility and charm characterize this 1997 Bollinger champagne R.D.

This Champagne is very versatile. The light nutty nose with some earthy aromas is followed by a palate of complex fruit (green apple) and hazelnut flavors with a hint of butteriness. A full-bodied champagne with good acidity and focus, and a great dry finish. This sparkler is great before a meal as an aperitif, during fine seafood meals (Lobster), and after a meal accompanying fresh fruit, fruit tarts, or chocolate.

- The French region of Champagne (comprised of the towns of Rheims, Epernay, and Ay) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and winemaking traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range from the basic...

NV Dehours - Extra Brut Grande Reserve
A blend of the three traditional Champagne varietals - 48% Pinot Meunier, 36% Chardonnay, and 16% Pinot Noir - this lovely bubbly has a pale gold color and ultra-fine mousse. There is an exquisite perfume of anise, mint, and grilled toast along with yellow stone fruit and just a hint of cherry. Freshness and vivacity pervade the palate as do notes of mineral, herbs and the continued stone-fruit. The almost microscopic bubbles give the impression of additional freshness and elegance. There was no...

Pol Roger is one of Champagnes historic houses. I have long admired the estates Champagnes for their superb balance and gracefulness. This year I found the best wines at the bottom and top of the ranges, while the mid-level wines revealed some inconsistency, something that is not uncommon among properties of this size. The tete de cuvee, Sir Winston Churchill, named after the estates most famous customer, is often among the finest wines in the region. Lot numbers are stamped on the corks, but...

Bruno Giacosa 2004 Spumante Extra Brut
One of the best kept secrets in Italian wine is the Champagne-style sparkling wine which Giacosa makes from Pinot Noir grapes purchased in the nearby Oltrepo Pavese. The Spumante Extra Brut, a blanc de noirs, yeasty and floral with an important aromatic impact, is an impeccable sparkler, substantial, vibrant, long, and perfectly balanced. It rivals the finest offerings from Franciacorta such as Bellavista and Ca' del Bosco.

This Champagne is a blend of 50% Meunier, 25% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir. It is composed of the 2000 and 1999 harvests and has seen 8 months of extra age on the cork as well as all that time on the lees. It is very charming on the nose with ripe golden apple and fresh spring flower aromatics. It has very solid apple and pear fruit on the palate as well as an uncommon mineral note on the long finish. It is quite dry, dosed at only nine grams per liter with MCR (concentrated grape must) instead...

Caves Naverans 2006 Naveran Dama is a blend of 85%Chardonnay and 15% Parallada which spent 24 months on its lees. Medium straw-colored, it offers up a complex aromatic array of freshly baked biscuit, green apple, and mineral. It has an attractive mousse and a persistent stream of tiny bubbles. Smooth textured and vibrant, this classy Champagne look-alike is a great value in sparkling wine. Robert Parker 90 points (Feb 2009)

winemaker's notes: Korbel Extra Dry is blended to be a delicate, easy to enjoy, off dry champagne. The way we blend multiple varieties, vintages and appellations helps Korbel assure the consistent quality of every bottle of Extra Dry. The off-dry finish of this cuvee completes the delicate soft character of this champagne.
