The instruments are painted Romanian violin bodies, equipped with Barcus-Berry transducer bridges. Acoustic tone is decent but not stellar, a little nasal and not much projection, which you'd expect from a violin with a painted finish. However, amplified tone is quite good. The sound can be a little "hot" on the treble, especially the E string, but this can be alleviated with an inline preamp or by rolling off the highs at the amplifier or sound board.
