"The 2006 Shiraz Nuriootpa was sourced from 60-year-old vines. Deep crimson-colored, it has an already multifaceted perfume of smoke, black pepper, bacon, and blueberry. This leads to a smooth-textured, ripe Shiraz with layers of savory fruit, soft tannins, and a pure finish. Drink it over the next eight years."

The 2005 Shiraz “Nurioopta” is purple/black with a brooding nose of smoke, tar, licorice, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied and voluptuous, it is dense and concentrated, with gobs of spicy black fruit flavors. It will evolve for 3-5 years and drink well through 2020.

The fruit for the Elderton Shiraz is grown exclusively at the Elderton Vineyard situated on the banks of the North Para River in the Barossa Valley. They know a lot about grapes here. In 1982, Elderton was transformed from a vineyard supplying quality fruit to other wineries to a winery in its own right. The Barossa is famous for this big hearty red and Elderton Shiraz is a benchmark for the region.

Elderton Shiraz Command Barossa 2002
"A stunning effort, the 2002 Shiraz Command exhib its an inky/blue/purple color as well as a sweet perfume of camphor, blueberries, blackberries, acacia flowers, and smoky, toasty oak. Full-bodied, opulent, and viscous, with huge, but sweet tannin, decent acidity, and a muscular, long, 40+ second finish, this is a classic, potentially long-lived, Barossa blockbuster. Its accessible now, but ideally needs another 2-4 years of bottle age, and should keep for two decades."

"Complex, with structure, grip, wood, and power, th e deep, chewy, peppery 2004 Shiraz reveals blackberry and black cherry fruit with dusty, loamy soil notes in the background. Drink it over the next decade." - Wine Advocate "Deep ruby. Wild, expansive bouquet of red and dark berries, olive and candied licorice. Energetic and bright, with a taut, wound-up character and slowly unfolding raspberry and blackberry flavors accented by licorice and cracked pepper. There's very good depth of flavor here...

Parker Review: "Elderton's 1995 Shiraz will be a big hit with anyone lucky enough to run across any of the several hundred cases that were imported to the United States. Dark ruby/purple-colored, with a seductive, sweet, vanillin, and jammy black fruit-scented nose, this wine is crammed with copious quantities of extract, fruit, glycerin, and concentration. As hedonistic a Shiraz as readers are likely to find, this voluptuously-textured, round, expansively-flavored wine is deliciously pure, and dramatic...

The International Wine Cellar 90 points: 'Inky purple. Spicy raspberry and cherry on the nose, with gentle Asian spice accents. Round, fleshy and concentrated, with energetic red fruit flavors joined by a mocha quality on the back. A wonderfully balanced shiraz with supple tannins.' Sep 2007

87 points, Wine Spectator, September 30, 2005 Ripe and distinctly cedary, with a minty edge to the dark, dense, chewy cherry and spice flavors, persisting on the firm finish. Best after 2006. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 88+ points, Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, Sep/Oct 2005 Deep red. Expressive nose of bitter cherry, fruitcake, plum and spicy...

The 2004 Shiraz Command comes from a single block of 104-year-old vines. It was aged in 100% new oak puncheons (400 liter barrels). Opaque purple-colored, this Shiraz has fabulous aromatics of smoke, melted tar, licorice, espresso, game, and blueberry compote. Layered but tight, this full-bodied wine is thick, rich, and totally hedonistic. The finish lasts for 60 seconds. However, be warned. This monumental Shiraz needs 10-15 years to fully unfold. It will provide pleasure through 2035. Robert...

Elderton 2005 Shiraz Barossa Command
WA 97Pts - Tasting Notes - Elderton s flagship is the single vineyard Command Shiraz, a wine with serious aging potential, and one with which all other South Australia Shiraz must be compared. The opaque purple/black 2005 Command Shiraz was aged in French and American oak puncheons (500-liter barrels). It offers up a sexy/kinky bouquet of wood smoke, lavender, leather, game, mineral, black raspberry, and blueberry pie. Voluptuous on the palate, complex, and dense, it demands a decade of cellaring after which it should offer hedonists much pleasure through 2035.
