August 13, 2006: What a pleasure to pick up a book that tells about a historical incident at home of which I knew nothing - the crashlanding of a Japanese fighter pilot on the Hawaiian island of Niihau on December 7, 1941. I've lived in Hawaii almost all my life but somehow missed this. The privately owned - to this day - Niihau is often called the Forbidden Island, as it has been kept isolated and out of the mainstream of modern life. While this incident is documented, not much...

In her acceptance speech upon receiving the Nobel Prize for Literature, Pearl Buck said, "The mind of my own country and of China, my foster country, are alike in many ways, but above all, in our common love of freedom". This title embodies this love of, and struggle for, freedom.

The film interweaves fascinating early footage of both rural and urban China, with interviews with Asian scholars and her contemporaries. She holds the distinction of being the first American woman to win the Nobel prize, and she used her celebrity to draw attention to many social issues of her time. She was an outspoken advocate for women¹s rights, civil rights, the repeal of the Chinese Exclusion Act, mixed race adoption, and tolerance for the mentally retarded.

This is a highly complex simulation of the war in the Pacific theater, using "Task Force" markers to move the fleets around and provide "fog of war."

There are now about 50 of us, including four children, and three babies are on the way. Our long-term plan is to grow to 750 ... but slowly enough to be economically and ecologically sound. We're striving to be a planned and fully integrated community that deals with the complexities of life in as sane, logical, caring, and equitable a fashion as possible. To help realize that goal, we have a labor system which insures that work gets done when, where, ...

The point-of-view footage is awesome – there’s lots of helmet mounts and line mounts and an obtuse angle where the camera flies behind the propeller on a line, giving a whacky fisheye perspective as Till throws wingovers. The music score is good too – rocky, without being too thrash, if you know what I mean. But to be honest, I found the story so endearing that its production values were of little consequence. East Wind will not only charm your pants off, it will leave you dreaming of a...

2 LPs on 1 CD: ME & CHET (1972)/ME & JERRY (1972). Personnel: Chet Atkins (guitar); Jerry Reed (guitar); Paul Yandell (guitar); Floyd Cramer (piano); Ralph Gallant (drums). On this disc, which contains two full LPs from the early 1970s, the legendary country guitarist Chet Atkins teamed up with younger six-stringer Jerry Reed. On each track, Reed holds his own against the master. In fact, Reed and Atkins complement each other's playing in a relaxed, comfortable manner. Reed plays mostly rhythm on...
