He wanted to build a chair with "the warm receptive look of a well used first baseman's mitt." So he nestled supple leather-covered cushions in molded-plywood, veneer-covered forms. He connected them with die-cast aluminum back braces. He set them all on bases painted black with bright polished aluminum trim and adjustable stainless steel glides.
