July 08, 2008: Fabulous puzzle book. My 3 1/2 year old is positively addicted to it. It took her about 5-6 puzzles before she understood the rules, but now she can't stop.

This 8 ½" by 10 ½" book uses its large page size to provide unusually large pop-ups. Dora leaps off the page in a field of roses as she tries the ballet. On the same double-page spread a monkey named Boots can be made to jump in the air with the pull of a tab. Dora dances the salsa in a pop-up jungle to a drum beat pictorially provided by a frog. She taps. She does the merengue and the tango. She also speaks a little Spanish, which the reader should be prepared either to deal with or to skip over...

Say Ahhh!, Dora the Explorer Series, Phoebe Beinstein
November 03, 2008: We read this story the night before my daughter had to go to the doctor. She's at the age (3) where she has suddenly become very nervous about a lot of things. Nothing really exciting happens in this story, but it does help show kids what to expect at the doctor. For $3.99, it was well worth it to help calm her jitters knowing that Dora doesn't mind going to the doctor.

October 17, 2009: My daughter absolutely loves this book. I don't know if it's the slightly puffy cover that gets her coming back, or the nice thick pages that are easy for her to turn, or the story... she always laughs at the swimming page, and she loves looking for Backpack in the background. She really enjoys this book, and we take it EVERYWHERE to help quelch any meltdowns. She sees it and instantly wants to read. This book is awesome. Definitely a good buy.

Fans of the television show, Dora the Explorer, will recognize the pattern here. Dora wants to make a special cake for Mother's Day. She must gather the ingredients from the banana grove, the nutty forest and the chocolate tree, and consults the map as to their locations. She speaks directly to the reader as she moves along, introducing her friends as she goes. Readers can learn a few Spanish words including learning to count to six. They can also follow Dora's cue when she says, "Say 'Swiper, no...
