Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau 2006
The 2006 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape, which is aged only in foudre and bottled with minimal clarification, is a more masculine, muscular effort than most 2006s. Its dark ruby/purple color is followed by notions of the sushi seaweed wrapper, nori, interwoven with incense, lavender, pepper, and copious quantities of black cherry and raspberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, with moderate tannin, and good structure as well as depth, it will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age, and should keep...

Many agree that this is the finest producer of the great Southern Rhone appellation year in and year out. This wine will need a fair amount of decanting (or more ideally several years in the cellar) but your patience will be rewarded. Cherries, smoke, stewed berries and tons of spice with a pretty aggressive tannic finish.

This wine has been cellared since I purchased it from the supplier. It is in perfect shape. Happy drinking.

96+ points Robert Parker: "The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe may be the greatest wine made at this property since the 2005 and 1998. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with an exquisite nose of salty sea breezes, licorice, ground pepper, jammy black cherries, black currants, figs, and plums, this is a full-bodied, rich, Provencal-styled offering with lots of sweet, ripe tannin. It is surprisingly accessible for a Vieux Telegraphe (this wine normally shuts down several years after bottling), but it should have great...

Thick, chewy and full-bodied, with juniper, cedar and dried currant flavors. A muscular and focused Rhône, with an intriguing flavor profile, but too tough to warm up to at this young age. Everything is in balance, though, so it's a good bet to cellar until at least 1997. 15,000 cases made.

Vieux Telegraphe La Crau Chateauneuf du Pape 2005 Rated 93-96
A beautiful wine is the 2005 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape. A saturated dark ruby, it offers up notes of seaweed wrappers (nori) intermixed with truffle, black raspberry, cherry, and some black currant, pepper, and iodine. Fleshy, full-bodied, with good acidity, moderately high tannins, and a long, rich finish, this wine will require 2-4 years of bottle age then drink well for close to 20 years. Drink 2009 - 2027.

A Châteauneuf-du-Pape seriously dominated by Grenache, which confers very singular suppleness and roundness. Best savoured young.

- Legendary wine-producing region in southeast France. Stereotypically speaking, Rhone wines are high in alcohol, and the majority produced is red. The northern Rhone is best known for outstanding 100% Syrah wines from areas such as Cote Rotie and Hermitage, as well as for fabulous white wines from Condrieu (where Viognier is king). In the southern Rhone, look for spicy, full-bodied wines that are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and other varietals coming from appellations such as Chateauneuf du Pape...

Deep red. Raspberry, kirsch and cured meat aromas are complicated by garrigue and hot stones. Nicely focused red fruit flavors possess impressive sweetness and very good depth, finishing with excellent sweetness and length. Note that La Crau is always stated on label and that this is only cuvee labeled as Vieux Telegraphe. 92-94 Points International Wine Cellar January/February 2008 A very grippy style, with lots of sweet tapenade, tobacco, hot stone and braised chestnut notes weaving through a core of dark currant and fig fruit.
