A pale yellow-golden colored wine. The intense nose is dominated by acacia flower, anise, peach, apricot, lychee, and other exotic fruit aromas. Fresh exotic fruit (lychee again) and peach flavors combine to give this wine a fragrant, full-bodied, yet mellow mouthfeel with great complexity and a very soft finish. The quintessential aperitif, Viognier is also great with shellfish, fish with sauce, poultry dishes, and moderately spicy foods. Serve chilled; drink over the next couple years.

Domaine des Baumard-Savennieres-2005
Drink this classic, 100% Loire Valley Chenin Blanc as you would a rich, exotic Chardonnay. Nose is roast hazelnuts and toffee. Tastes of pears, spiced apple and more roast nuts. Finish is something else: rich, chocolate, low acid, creamy and long. Best food pairing: baked oysters and other such savory, rich fish dishes.

92 points Wine Entusiast: "Showing both the crispness necessary for Savennières, and the ripeness of 2005, this is a finely balanced wine. It is full, open and generous, but still has a center of green, crisp acidity and minerality. Age for 10 years." (09/09) 90 points Wine Spectator Insider: "This is still two wines with some upfront quince and pear flavors then followed by more reserved mineral and chalk dust notes. Notes of green melon, sweetened butter and lime candy add complexity, but some...

France; Wine Spectator rated 91 points! Concentrated and a bit monolithic now. Firm tannins are wrapped around a center of cherry and blackberry notes. Vibrant and long, with a spicy, cherry aftertaste. Needs time, but has fine potential. Best from 2011 through 2025. 300 cases imported. This wine does assort for the 10% case discount!

Here there is more aromatic elegance as well as depth with a broader spectrum of fruit aromas nuanced by spice and mineral hints that continue onto the rich, vibrant and intense medium full flavors underpinned by suave tannins and a detailed and wonderfully pure finish. Recommended. 89-92 Sweet Spot outstanding!

"Intense and concentrated, with a laser beam of pink grapefruit, tangy nectarine, quince, lemon grass and mineral flavors, with the acidity keeping the flavors fresh and lively. Drink now through 2006"

This Viognier from the south of France tastes like a Viognier; it has peachy and apricot aromas. This wine received a Bronze Medal at Concours des Grand Vins du Languedoc. It is light and fruity, and compared to bottles of Condrieu selling at $50/bottle, it is a good compromise.
