Diamond Creek Gravelly Meadow Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Gravelly Meadow Vineyard yields the lowest quantity of fruit off of the Diamond Creek property but luckily, we were able to get a few cases for Dean & DeLuca! The gravelly soil, (thus the name of the site), provides serious drainage to the property. What that means to us is the vines struggle a bit for moisture and as a result, give the wine incredible nuances of earth blended with black fruit. Another great vintage for Diamond Creek.

Arguably the most open-knit of the trio, it serves up violet and plum overtones with a mineral note on the finish undoubtedly contributed by its rocky birthplace. This five-acre plot on the Diamond Creek estate continues to impress.

Diamond Creek Gravelly Meadow Cabernet Sauvignon
The Connoisseurs' Guide 93 points: 'Calling this wine light is a bit of a reach, but it is nonetheless the least hefty and most mannerly of the current Diamond Creek bunch. Its beautifully focused, classic display of cassis, violets and dusty earth spice in the nose is followed hard on by deep and refined flavors of a similar stripe. Firmed and made ageworthy by its fine finishing tannins, it will need a little less time than its siblings to reach full stride.' Aug 2008

- America's most famous wine region, which encompasses a varied geographical territory running about 20 miles long from the San Francisco Bay northward to the foot of Mount St. Helena. Napa's great diversity, both in terms of climate and terroir, has led to the creation of a number of smaller AVAs like Stags Leap District, Rutherford, Howell Mountain, Oakville and Mount Veeder, among others. Cabernet and chardonnay still reign supreme, but just about everything under the sun is grown in Napa Valley...

Elegant but quite complete, with ripe cherry, sage, spice and berry flavors. Youthful, long and vibrant. Best from 2002 through 2010.

1984 Diamond Creek - Cabernet Sauvignon Gravelly Meadow
The saturated ruby/purple color is followed by an intensely concentrated, closed, unevolved wine that is lighter than either the Red Rock Terrace or Volcanic Hill bottlings. Nevertheless, the Gravelly Meadow vineyard has produced a super-concentrated, rich, and potentially profound Cabernet Sauvignon if one has the patience to wait another 4-6 years.

Winemaker's notes: Our second coolest microclimate is our five-acre Gravelly Meadow vineyard. Originally a prehistoric river bed, this stony, gravelly soil drains rapidly and the vines struggle for moisture.

Diamond Creek Gravelly Meadow Cabernet 1998
Tight, tart and compact, but rich in flavor, with crisp, stemmy black cherry and wild-berry flavors. Turns firmly tannic, with an oaky, earthy aftertaste. Needs time. Best from 2004 through 2014.

Chewy texture, revealing a core of red plum and red cherry that's well-focused. Turns austere and tannic on the finish, so time is still on your side with this one.--'81/'91 California Cabernet retrospective. Drink now through 2010.
