Viognier needs cold weather in winter and most of the Viognier planted in Pays d'Oc tastes more like Chardonnay than Viognier. You can find good Viognier in Ardéche (very cold in winter) and in some cool valleys in the Alps. At The Wine Messenger, we do not like the Viognier from Pays d'Oc because it does not taste like Viognier.
