Crauford Wine Company in Napa Valley makes some of our favorite Cabernets with grapes from the Maroon Vineyard. This unique hillside vineyard lies at 1,200 feet elevation, just 200 feet outside of the Howell Mountain appellation. From that same vineyard comes this Sauvignon Blanc with real style. Winemaker Chris Corley selects a small portion of the grapes, just 15%, for barrel fermentation. This, along with extended aging on the lees brings added complexity and flavor to the finished wine.

2008 Girard Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley. Sauvignon Blanc is a varietal that is seemingly vanishing from this part of California, which is shame. This one is packed with aromas and flavors of citrus and melon with a tinge of green apple. It is refreshing enough to have as a cocktail but would complement and seafood meal too. This well-known and well-respected Napa winery rarely misses a step with its sauvignon blanc, but the 2007 version might just be their best yet. Classic sauvignon citrus, pineapple and lemon grass, with terrific verve and lip-smackin' crispness.
