The composer's synthesis of 20th-century harmonies and timbres with 18th-century structure and form has captivated audiences since its premiere in 1916. This is Prokofiev's most frequently performed symphonic work.

After Stocks death in 1942, the Orchestra was having a rough time finding a replacement to take over as music director. This was also the time of the World War II turmoil, making it even more difficult to place a conductor. Desire Defauw, accepted the position in 1943, but after only a four year stay was replaced by Artur Rodzinski. Excellent CD! The songs are beautifully done & even my 3.5 year old son & 2.5 year old daughter love it. The music alone is great but combined with the voices...WONDERFUL! I bought 3- one to keep the other 2 are gifts. And at a really affordable price, it makes gift-giving easy! My son's favorite is "You Raise Me Up"- which he calls "the Angel's song" because he says it sounds like angels singing. You will really enjoy this CD!
