Chateau Bianca Winery Willamette Valley Pinot Noir Wine Page 1
Wherever it came from it's hard to get a consistent, great Pinot, in large part because the vine is genetically unstable. A parent plant can produce a plant with wildly different berry size and shape and even flavor. Cabernet Sauvignon has 12 genetically individual clones but Pinot Noir has up to 1,000 possible clones. Further, the grape doesn’t produce very heavily and spring frosts can be lethal. It is also highly susceptible to hot weather damage, which can burn the grape skins. Rot is a constant...

Winery Direct. Library Re-Release! Montelena uses only French Oak for all of their wines. The Chardonnay is definitely made in a French style. Upfront the wine is toasty and rich, round and creamy in the middle with hints of mineral and cinnamon on the finish. Excellent acidity gives the wine a clean feel in the mouth. This wine drinks well now, but is an excellent Chardonnay to age. According to Montelena, 1997 was one of the best vintages they've had in a long time. Source Reviewer Rating Maturity...

"The flavors follow, leading with classic Napa Valley Chardonnay varietal character and showing strong Bartlett pear. The palate is one of fresh, huge fruit - lovely, luscious, and mouthwatering. This Chardonnay is built to age, and I fully expect that after a couple of years of proper cellaring its many layers of underlying structure will begin to emerge. So as tasty as this wine is now, by then it will really be rocking!" Winery Notes

CHATEAU MONTELENA ESTATE, CABERNET SAUVIGNON, NAPA VALLEY, 750ML 2000
The philosophy at Chateau Montelena is simple: make the best! Period. Score: Barrel Tasting A touch austere, with herb, leather and green-tobacco notes. Finishes with a hint of currant and plum. An unevolved and restrained youngster. Score range: 89-91 (JL) Three decades of experience with the same varietals and vineyards have earned Chateau Montelena recognition as a world-class winery.

The winery continues to turn out a strong Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards in the Calistoga area This is a big production item (10,000 cases), and tends to be a good value for a high-class Napa Cabernet The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (22,000 cases) is a beauty Savory black currant fruit notes intermixed with some licorice, underbrush, and spice jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, smoothly textured, beautifully elegant wine meant to be served and drunk in its first 10-12 years of life This clearly has the fingerprints of Chateau Montelena's Bo Barrett and his father Jim Barrett, but at a much lower price point, and for that reason seems an ideal steakhouse Cabernet that gives both value and pleasure This vintage has excellent potential I feel that is shows strong similarities to 1986, in which we enjoyed delicious, fully mature fruit without excess sugar, and with good acidity We could not have ordered better weather in 2005: when we needed a little heat, it warmed up; when we needed a little less

No one can say exactly where Chardonnay originated, but it is thought to be a relatively modern grape variety indigenous to the Burgundy region of east-central France. According to The Oxford Companion to Wine, it seems certain that Chardonnay emerged from the Dark Ages to be one of the favored grape varieties of the Christian era, particularly around Benedictine and Cistercian monasteries in the area ruled by the Dukes of Burgundy.

It's not often that we can put a single-vineyard Chardonnay on the shelf for under $20. But that's exactly what we found when we tasted one recently from Washington's largest winery, Chateau Ste Michelle. The previous vintage scored 90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate so we wanted to see how the 2007 was since the price was so attractive.

The flavor profiles of white wine seem to vary considerably, often depending on whether they are grown in a warm or cool climate. Although the same can be said for reds, the varying flavors seem more pronounced amongst the whites. For example, whites from a cool climate will exhibit more citrus and stone fruit flavors, while whites from a warm climate will have more tropical fruit flavors.

The Tijou family has a long history of winemaking, dating back to 1780. They bought Chateau Soucherie in 1952, and over time have expanded their vineyards and also began bottling their own wine. The Tijou's winery blends modern technology with tradition. While the cellar is rather high-tech, all the grapes are harvested manually and chemical treatments in the vineyards are kept to an absolute minimum.
