"This is a fruit forward vintage with aromas of strawberry, raspberry, mulberry and a hint of rose petal. Silky tannins add structure without overwhelming the fruit flavors of strawberry jam and ripe red cherries." ~Winery Notes

At Carmel Road, we are convinced that fruit sourced from the lower bench land vineyards of Monterey can evolve into some of the finest expressions of Pinot Noir. Clark Ranch, in the Arroyo Seco region, highlights that potential with its rich color, lush fruit aromas and ripe cherry fruit intensity. We hope you will find a place for this wine in your cellar and at your table.

- These heavily planted regions on either side of the vast Salinas Valley account for much of the mass-produced, commercial wine sold in supermarkets nationwide. In the hills, however, and in sub-AVAs like Chalone and Santa Lucia Highlands, quality is much higher. Pinot noir and chardonnay look to be particularly promising.

Carmel Road Pinot Noir is harvested with great care to minimize the handling of the fruit." Gently destem each cluster then cold soak the grapes for several days to help develop red fruit flavors and minize the tannins."

California's Central Coast was blessed with a particularly long growing season in 2005, which allowed the grapes to slowly ripen and reach their full potential. In combination with an extended period of cool fog from Pacific Ocean, delicate Pinot Noir grapes were provided optimum conditions to develop a rich complexity of aromas. Carmel Road 2005 Monterey Pinot Noir tantalizes nose with aromas of concentrated cherry preserve, earthy forest fruit, and hints of rose petals and roasted almonds. Velvety tannins complement fresh fruit flavors and offer a full body mouthfeel sensation and delightful finish. - Ivan Giotenov, Winemaker

Monterey's Salinas Valley is one of California's hottest cool-climate AVAs. At Carmel Road, we've tailored our viticulture and winemaking techniques to capture the compelling character of our unique climate and soils. Our Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs are known for their rich flavors, firm acidity and brilliant varietal flavors. But it is the pronounced minerality that sets them apart from their peers throughout the Golden State.
