It is said that many small growers in Chassagne tear out their old Pinot Noir vines to plant new Chardonnay vines. But in the Chassagne AOC, a good white will sell for much more than a good Chassagne red. Louis Lequin has not completely succumbed to this financial motivation and he loves his 45 year-old Pinot Noir vines planted in les Morgeots. We love them too and every year we buy large amounts of his 1º Cru red because it is very cheap for the quality of the wine.

Chassagne-Montrachet is probably the best white of Côte d'Or in Burgundy. The whites of Chassagne range from Villages, Premier Cru and Grand Cru, and the characteristic of Chassagnes are their steely power.

This too is very fresh and bright, particularly for the appellation with floral and citrus aromas that dissolve into bigger, richer and more powerful big-bodied flavors that possess good mid-palate concentration and less obvious sweetness as the finish is agreeably dry. Allen Meadows-Burghound
