Domaine des Malandes Petit Chablis 2006
We do not usually feature Petit Chablis, the least expensive of the four Chablis produced, because, as a product of young vines, it normally has too much acidity, without accompanying elements to create balance. But, when a particularly good vintage comes along, like this one, Petit Chablis can present an excellent value for its price. 1999 was difficult in Chablis. Halfway through the harvest, it began to rain heavily and the grapes quickly became swollen with water. Growers who picked these rain-swollen grapes produced thin, diluted wines. Some growers, more courageous, chose to hold out for better weather, which, luckily for them, came 10 days later. Burghound - (86-89) Points! A more elegant and slightly higher-toned nose that combines mostly yellow fruit aromas with citrus notes that lead to rich, full and sweet flavors that posses good volume and fine energy plus a relatively fine finish. I like the freshness and lively personality here and this too offers solid quality for its level.

Domaine des Malandes eschews the use of ageing in wood in order to preserve the unique flavors that Chablis Kimmeridgian soil imparts on the wine. Their Premier Cru Côte de Lechet comes from an east-facing vineyard that lies on a mixture of calcareous and clay soils. It produces intensely mineral wines with good fruit intensity. 2003 was an incredibly hot summer all across France; the harvest was smaller than normal, but of higher quality.

Deep golden color. Very mineral nose with hints of apple and blossoms. Full-bodied with good structure and grip. Good acidity and long finish of very pleasant fruit flavors. Will become rounder with aging; can be aged for 10 to 12 years.

Characteristic light golden color. A seductive mineral and fruit nose with apple, pear, anise and grapefruit aromas. The wine is full-bodied, and very dry with crisp acidity, and rich apple and pear fruit sensations with mineral notes and a very long, lingering, fruity finish of citrus and green apples. A classic Premier Cru Chablis that could age until 2010-12 developing complexity. Ideal with white meats, fish, light cheeses, or salads.

It is full-bodied with good structure and acidity and has a fantastic mouthfeel with beautiful dense fruit flavors and a touch of oak that linger on the finish.
