Biography - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Their incredible exploits earned them a place in American legend. Their true fate remains one of the great mysteries of the Old west. Butch and Sundance never lose their gift for one-liners, even when they have to jump off that gorge; George Roy Hill and screenwriter William Goldman send up the image of outlaws heading south of the border with bank robberies conducted in...

The two starring roles were originally offered to Warren Beatty and Steve McQueen. Eventually, Newman and Robert Redford were chosen, but initially Newman was to play Sundance and Redford Cassidy. 20th Century Fox did not want Redford to play the part, but director George Roy Hill insisted. Redford later noted that this film catapulted him to stardom and changed his career forever.

Call me old fashioned, but I don't think the buddy movies of today hold a candle to the very first one ever, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. This film has woven itself into the fibers of the American vernacular and become one of the most beloved westerns of all time. What really sets this film apart from all others is the incredible script by William Goldman (The Princess Bride, All The Presidents Men) who is a master of turning words on a page into poetry. From Butch wanting to set the ground...
