I have been using this as a waveform editor since the dark ages (Mac OS 7). You wouldn't use this to create music, but it can be useful if you need to apply some effects to a waveform. It sure came in handy recently when I was recording some falsetto vocals in GarageBand and the volume was inconsistent. I brought the waveforms into sound studio and use the normalize filter.
