Blanquette de Limoux Brut
This sparkling wine is named for the Benedictine monks from the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire, who invented France's first sparkling wine back in 1531. (Don't confuse it with another sparkling wine from the Loire Valley, also called St.-Hilaire; this is the original, made from the local Mauzac grape.) It is delicate and elegant.

Antech Blanquette de Limoux Grande Reserve 2007
Basking in the Mediterranean sunlight of Limoux, the vineyards of Georges and Roger Antech grow in a soil that is a mixture of limestone and gravel. This area had been making sparkling wines for 500 years - far longer than the more famous Champagne. The grapes are hand harvested before undergoing the traditional "Methode Champenoise," and are then aged 18 to 24 months on lees. This delicious Grande Reserve is their top-of-the-line wine... and yet it costs only half as much as a good Champagne.

Clean! Peach up front, melon mid-palate and Granny Smith apple on the finish. Dry, with chalk and slate notes that coat the cheeks, and an über efferevescence like a power spray washer, but in a good way.

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has...

More than a few residents of Limoux would answer yes — and without hesitation. Limoux is a small town and appellation in the eastern Pyrenean foothills, part of the Languedoc region of southern France. For centuries, it was devoted to the production of white wines that would sparkle naturally after a second fermentation. These became known as Blanquette de Limoux — Blanquette simply meaning "white" in the local language.

A blend of Mauzac and Chardonnay - from the brithplace of Sparkling wine! An intense, floral bouquet, with a fine mousse and fruity flavors, with a long, dry finish. Better than many entry-level Champagnes at twice the price.

A favorite wine for a big crowd of toasters. Balanced, real sparkling wine for an unbelievably low price. J. Laurens is our best selling sparkling wine, and sparkling wine always tastes best out of the big bottle. Try one and see for yourself! (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

Medium crimson to cranberry appearance with slight unfiltered haze. Raspberry, cherry, Belgian milk chocolate, Madagascar vanilla and hints of nutmeg combine to make a pleasing aroma. Ripe and sweet-tart around the edges, dry on the tongue with youthful mild tannins. Chocolate covered raspberry and cherry flavors finish firmly with a hint of pepper, not to mention a real "kick". This red is on the money and is arguably more effective than a box of Godiva chocolates at 1/3 the price. $12.99

Rather herbaceous and dry, this Chardonnay kind of begs for fruit. The lime leaves and apple peel with some herbes de Provence don't really flesh out a great finish.
