2007 was in many ways an ideal year for Winemakers. We enjoyed a long growing season with moderate temperatures and low yields in vineyards. This provided us with a small crop of grapes with highly concentrated fruit flavors and well balanced acidity. Our 2007 Monterey Chardonnay is assembled from specially selected vineyards primarily in Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands appellations of Salinas Valley. Featuring grapes principally from Mendocino County (85%), this Chardonnay offers enticing aromas and flavors of creamy vanilla, tropical fruit and fresh pears along with a lingering finish of vanilla and toasty oak-spice. The wine is entirely barrel fermented and is aged primarily in new French oak. Winemaker's notes: Annual production of Chardonnay also averages nearly 2,000 cases. It is made entirely from Chardonnay grapes. Pressing is accomplished immediately after crushing and destemming. Cool fermentation follows and lasts about three weeks. The secondary malolactic fermentation is not induced. Then Mayacamas Chardonnay is given several rackings and a light fining during the next six months of aging in 600 to 1,200 gallon American oak casks. Landmark Overlook Chardonnay (half-bottle) 2007
The balanced acidity and creamy fleshy texture suggest a wine that will continue to age beautifully. The concentrated flavors exhibit just enough minerality. A long secondary fermentation, the malo-lactic, throughout the spring of 2008, helped this wine to retain great freshness during its ten month elevage in select French Burgundian barrels.

The Overlook follows its predecessor's footsteps, impressive with its consistency of flavor and handcrafted complexity. Our winemaker has blended grapes from carefully selected vineyards from two of California's finest coastal appelations: Sonoma (86%) and Monterey (14%). The wines was barrel fermented in French oak (25% new), using indigenous yeast and went through complete malo-lactic fermentation, aged sur lie for 8 months, with gentle racking, light isinglass fining and bottled without filtration...

Grapes from specially selected vineyards from our Guenoc Valley estate form the core of this complex, fruity wine. Entirely fermented in French and American oak barrels, then aged on the yeast lees for eight months, this wine displays ripe apple and pear fruit with nuances of cream and spice, a silky texture and finish. By circulating the lees, Im adding a soft, creamy dimension to the wine. Each time the yeast cells are stirred up, the texture of the wine evolves, resulting in the silky mouthfeel Im trying to achieve. Chuck allowed 80% of the wine to go through malolactic fermentation. Excellent food pairings with Meridian Vineyards Santa Barbara County Chardonnay include poultry, fish, pork, cream sauces, and mildly spicy foods.

This wine is made from lots selected for their complexity of fruit flavors and voluptuous texture. Many fine Napa Valley vineyards from Carneros to St. Helena have each contributed their individual character to the blend. Fermentation in French oak barrels, malolactic fermentation and barrel aging on the lees were all employed to add to the wines richness and long finish. The wine is delicately fruity, with notes reminiscent of apple, peach and pear.

The 2007 vintage was one of the best in recent memory. After a normal bud break, the valley experienced mild weather through the growing season with a slightly cooler summer and warm September. This climate resulted in slow, even ripening with a crop just slightly smaller than normal, and the highly desired small berry size. Winemakers across the valley are very excited about the 2007 vintage.
