"Beringer's Private Reserve has always been one of my favorite California Cabernets, particularly since the late seventies. They can be drunk young, but age exceptionally well, giving every indication of holding their fruit and evolving nicely for two decades. The terrific 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve offers an opaque purple color, a gorgeous nose of toasty oak, and a silky, concentrated texture with unobtrusive acidity or tannin. The wine possesses layered richness, remarkable balance...

The fully mature, open-knit 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is totally delicious. The color is dark garnet with some amber at the edge. The big, sweet, licorice, earthy, jammy, black fruit-scented nose is followed by a full-bodied, sweet, expansive, chewy wine with no hard edges. The acidity and tannin are both well-integrated in this plump, sumptuous Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink well for 5-6 more years. RP

"The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve may not equal the fabulous concentration and intensity of the 2001, but its not far off the mark. It is a fruit-forward, softer, more flamboyant, already seductive effort displaying gorgeous notes of chocolaty creme de cassis, some spicy, high-quality, toasty oak, a rich, plush, savory, expansive mid-palate, and a long, heady finish with elevated glycerin and plenty of sweet tannin and fruit. This wine is delicious yet promises to age gorgeously for ...

Beringer 1999 Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Enticing flavors of currants, minerals and brown spice. Very long, slow-building finish features big but sweet and fine tannins. Suave and impressive.

Our 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon boasts a fascinating mélange of aromas, including ripe black fig, blackberry, cassis, caramel, and mocha. On the richly textured palate, the wine’s intense black fruit flavors take on brambly spice, roasted coffee and dark chocolate tones, leading to a long, savory finish.

Beringer 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Private Reserve
WA 93Pts - WS 92Pts - IWC 92Pts - Tasting Notes - According to the Wine Advocate the 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is a full-bodied, explosively rich, deep purple-colored wine bursting with ripe fruit. It displays smoky oak, gobs of cassis, a touch of cigar box and cedar, and a layered, multi-dimensional feel. This voluptuous, seductive offering is already drinking well, yet should age effortlessly for 15-20 years.

Parker Review: "A seductive, sweet, creamy nose of chocolate, cassis, and herbs is followed by an opulently-styled, soft, supple Cabernet that has quickly reached full maturity. The wine exhibits a judicious touch of toasty new oak. The finish is silky-smooth..."

"When all of these cuvees are blended together, the result is the finest Cabernet Sauvignon yet made by Ed Sbragia, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve (11,000 cases of truly divine Cabernet nectar)...As I reported last year, the 2001 is an extraordinary effort. Large-scaled yet elegant, it boasts classic notes of creme de cassis, chocolate, and smoky oak. With extraordinary voluptuousness, great concentration, tremendous intensity, and a finish that lasts nearly 60 seconds, this saturated...

Beringer 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Private Reserve 375ml (half-bottle)
WA (94-96)pts. - WS 93pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: The trial blend of the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve also looks to be sensational. It could turn out better than the 2004. Contrary to some of the reports I have heard that production is enormous, there are only around 10,000 cases of the Private Reserve, and 200-250 cases of each single vineyard component. The 2005 Private Reserve reveals a dense ruby/purple color as well as a sweet nose of blackberries, crushed rocks, and spring...

Beringer Private Reserve 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 750ml
Vinifying the fruit from each vineyard separately, Ed and his winemaking partner Laurie Hook used gentle pump-over techniques for optimal extraction, and then aged the wines in hand-selected, custom-toasted barrels of new French Nevers oak. The wines went through 100% malolactic fermentation for added complexity and softness, and were aged just over two years before Ed selected the blend - 48% Steinhauer Ranch, 23% St. Helena Home Ranch, 8% Marston Vineyard, 7% Bancroft Ranch, 6% Rancho del Oso,...

Overall, the 2000 Napa Valley growing season was very cool and moderate, save for a few advantageous warm spells. Bud-break and fruit-set was normal. Moderately warm, sunny days from June to September kept the clusters’ development on-track through a pleasant summer. By the time he assembled the final blend, he knew each lot’s best characteristics and chose to build a solid core of fruit and ripe tannins from Steinhauer Ranch and Rancho del Oso on Howell Mountain, with small amounts of St. Helena...

" Good bright medium ruby. Knockout nose combines black raspberry, minerals and sweet spices. Lush and creamy, with explosive, fully ripe dark fruit and mineral flavors and terrific back-end lift. Finishes with big, broad, fine-grained tannins and impressive length. The goal here is not to make an early-drinking wine but one with sweet tannins and thoroughly ripe fruit, notes winemaker Laurie Hook, but I find this sexy from the start."
