Description: Riding on the waves of the very popular Arduino USB board is this small prototyping shield. Originally spawned with collaboration between the folks at SFE and ITP @ NYU, the Protoshield mates with the Arduino USB board and gives the user a small soldering area, two general LEDs, access to a BlueSMiRF socket, a general pushbutton switch, and most important of all - the Arduino reset switch is brought to the top level. This is the new Arduino Duemilanove. The Duemilanove automatically selects the appropriate power supply (USB or external power). A great description of the new functionality can be found here (USB fuse protection, software reset, and much more!). Board comes fully assembled and tested with ATMega328 pre-loaded with bootloader. If you have a NG Arduino, did you press reset just before selecting Upload menu item?. Is the correct Serial Port selected?. Is the correct driver installed?. Is the chip inserted into the Arduino properly? (If you built your own arduino or have burned the bootloader on yourself). Does the chip have the correct bootloader on it? (If you built your own arduino or have burned the bootloader on yourself).

The jumper-setting step is only for Diecimila and OLDER arduinos! Make sure the Power Jumper is set correctly. Right next to the USB jack, there is a jumper with 3 pins. If the jumper is on the two pins nearest USB jack, that means you are planning to power the Arduino via the USB cable. If it's on the two pins nearer the DC Jack then it means you are planning to power the Arduino using a 9V battery or wall adapter.
