Our search for the best vineyard sites to produce d istinguished Pinot Noir led us to the North Willamette Valley, Specifically the Red Hills of Dundee. Our steep hillside vineyards are densely planted with Dijon clones, between 2,100 and 4,800 vines per acre. Our 2000 Premier Cuvée is from mature vines grown in our four single estate vineyards; Red Hills Estate, Arcus Estate, Renegade Ridge Estate, and Archery Summit Estate.

We drank this on New Years Eve with a rack of lamb. Archery Summit is one of our favorite Pinot producers and the 2001 Arcus is nothing short of phenomenal. It is a very well rounded burgundian pinot. Once it opened up it offered lots of berry flavors with a little hint of wood and pepper. I look forward to drinking this again, but will probably wait a few years to open another bottle since I think this wine will only get better with time.

ARCHERY SUMMIT 2007 PINOT NOIR "PREMIER CUVEE" WILLAMETTE VALLEY 750ml With only five vineyards and just over 115 acres to farm, winemaker Anna Matzinger takes a personal, "hands-on" approach to Archery Summit’s wines that one might call intimate. So much, in fact, that Wine Spectator has stated that Archery Summit makes "Oregon Pinot Noir that rivals Burgundy in quality!" Any great winemaker will tell you that great wine starts with great grapes (a lot of greatness there), so to be as "hands off...

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
