Video Games. EyeToy: Groove is a PlayStation 2 dancing game, different from any that came before it in at least one important way. Unlike genre-founding titles such as Konami's Dance Dance Revolution or rhythm-shooter hybrids such as Amplitude or Rez, Groove doesn't use a dance pad, or even a standard Dual Shock controller. Instead, players dance to the beat in front of the EyeToy camera, which displays their moves on the TV screen as the game software calculates the accuracy of their rhythm and timing to the music being played. Prompts appear on the screen, directing players to move their arms, hips, and bodies in time to the beat. Various game modes allow two players to compete head-to-head for high-scores, conquer challenges together, or just have fun dancing on their own television screens. A calorie-counter feature can estimate the amount of energy spent moving to the music. Groove features an eclectic selection of over two dozen licensed songs, by artists such as Jamiroquai, Jessica Simpson, Fatboy

Rock Band: Unplugged Video Games for Sony PlayStation Portable
Video Games. Although players may have toured the world many times over in the console editions of Rock Band, the series can finally take its act on the road with Rock Band: Unplugged, the first for a portable system. The game is played with the normal PSP buttons instead of frets on a guitar-shaped controller, not unlike the play in developer Harmonix's Guitar Hero pre-cursors for PS2, Frequency and Amplitude. As icons scroll outward down the screen, players tap buttons in time with the music, in order to perform the part of the instrument they are playing. Players can switch between available instruments -- lead, bass, drums, and vocals -- by shifting to the left or right. The game's song list includes more than 40 master recordings, including 9 tracks that launch as system exclusives for a limited time before being made available to other system editions of Rock Band. ~ T.J.
