This Aetna Fireback is a cast-iron reproduction of the fireback that was first produced during the Revolutionary War by New Jersey's Aetna Furnace. The rooster design was known to be a symbol of victory. A solid cast iron fireback absorbs heat and radiates it back into the room, making the fireplace more efficient when heating a room. Rest on the floor of the fireplace or display upright using feet listed below.

Minuteman Aetna Fireplace Fireback
While some people think of firebacks as being purely decorative, they do indeed serve several very practical purposes. Solid cast iron firebacks absorb heat and then radiate the heat directly into the room, making the fireplace much more efficient in heating the house. Also, firebacks protect firebrick, increasing the life of the fireplace. Firebacks are designed to rest on the floor of the hearth, however, fireback "boots" may be used to hold the fireback upright and raise it off the hearth floor...

Replica depicts Aetna Furnace's original Rooster fireback offering in 1770s. Firebacks help direct heat back into the room to increase efficiency. Firebacks also serve to protect the rear wall of the chimney from corrosion. Cast iron construction. Fireback feet are also available (sold separately). Fireback weighs approximately 54 lbs. Dimensions: 23W x 26H inches.

This is a reproduction of a fireback that was produced in the first of two Aetna Furnaces in New Jersey. Erected in 1766-67 by Charles Reed, this foundry probably cast the rooster fireback no later than 1775.

This handsome rooster was cast no later than 1775 at the first of two Aetna foundries located in southern New Jersey. This foundry was near present day Medford Lakes.
