The Hymn we have come to know and love as "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" was originally written as an independent poem. Just days before Christmas, James Montgomery reflected on the cold and melancholy landscape surrounding him as he traveled alone by coach in December 1826. Finding a scrap of paper in his pocket, he set to work composing aspects of the prose he later entitled "The Stranger and His Friend."

My brother and I have performed this piece over 9 times. We've played in just a family settings, all the way to stake conference settings and several times in our wards. People are brought to tears by the spirit of this piece and can't seem to get enough. Each time I play this piece I'm filled with the beauty and peace that comes from it. I highly recommend this piece to anyone! It's an intermediate level piece for both piano and flute/ violin. I love it!
