The concept for the recording was inspired by a 1953 musical tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. Ten English composers each contributed a composition in the Queen's honor. This program, featuring ten composers as well, opens with Ralph Vaughan Williams's "Silence and Music," whose elegiac tone is well-suited to the tribute to McCartney.
