Since we landed here 8 years ago we have been learning more and more about this site and as the vineyard has aged and gotten healthy we have seen the range of characteristics of Pinot it produces greatly expand. Tasting the different blocks out of the Estate Vineyard is a fascinating lesson in why Pinot Noir is such an incredible grape. From one site we span the full range from lightly pigmented yet richly textured wines to preternaturally dark and intensely structured wines. Over the course of ...

Patricia Green produces excellent Oregon Pinot Noir from her Ribbon Ridge Estate. This wine is produced from the oldest vines from that vineyard. This wine got 91 points from Steve Tanzer's Interational Wine Cellar. Here is their review: "Medium red color. Strongly perfumed bouquet of strawberry, raspberry, candied cherry and Asian spices, with a floral element emerging with air and carrying through on the palate. The wine's vivid red berry and rose pastille flavors are nicely framed by fine...

Abacela, Dolcetto - Estate Grown 2006 -- "The unique soils in the Jasper block of our estate’s Fault Line Vineyards provided gorgeous, perfectly ripe Dolcetto fruit in 2006. After hand-harvesting . . .

90 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Wild, pungent bouquet displays smoky cherry, cured meat and dried floral qualities underscored by minerals and cracked pepper; reminded me of syrah. Deep and chewy, with dark cherry-cola and berry skin flavors, dusty tannins and good lift. Finishes with sweet blackberry and kirsch This benefited greatly from aeration, so give it cellar or decanter time." (May/June '08) From Patricia Green's 2006 Vintage Report: "Of all the sites...

Patricia Green Cellars Croft Vineyard Pinot noir 07
The wine not only stands up to the 33% new oak, it completely overwhelms it. This deeply purple wine has a tremendous amount of stuffing that makes is boisterously appealing for the short term but the pure intensity is checked by great natural acidity which will make it something worth sticking in the cellar. This is an extroverted Pinot Noir. There are dimensions of ripeness, concentration, intensity and depth that all threaten to pin the needle but at the same time there is acidity and structure...

Patricia Green Cellars Ana Vineyard Pinot noir 07 - Tanzer score 91 points "Medium red. Sexy aromas of raspberry and blackberry preserves, cherry-cola and Asian spices, along with a floral topnote. The cherry-cola quality repeats on the palate, which also offers rose pastille and clove flavors. Becomes sweeter on the persistent finish, with no loss of energy or clarity. This is drinking very well right now."

This wine is dark and dramatic, both visually and on the palate. While perhaps not the monster of 2003 that had people cowering in fear this wine is definitely a take no prisoners sort of Pinot Noir. There is a load, an ocean if you will, of dark, plum-centered fruit in the front of this wine that is followed by coffee, chocolate and kirsch qualities that lead into a fairly dramatic and intense set of tannins. It sounds like a big guy and it certainly is but everything is in proportion so it is neither...
