Good ruby-red. Aromas of blackcurrant, licorice, flowers and sexy, spicy oak. Sweet but youthfully tight today, with a distinctly brisk character to its flavors of currant, dark cherry, flowers and mint. Today the spicy oak element is obvious, but this firmly structured wine boasts lovely depth of fruit and excellent length. The pH here is around 3.65, or roughly the same as that of the 2005, noted winemaker Gary Brookman, who added that the 2006 season brought roughly similar growing conditions...

Switchback Ridge-Cabernet Sauvignon-"Peterson Family Vineyard" Napa Valley-2006
R.P. writes “Beautiful aromas of sweet blackberries, cassis, forest floor, and spring flowers jump from the glass of this full-bodied, opulent, moderately tannic wine. Its textured, layered mouthfeel displays no aggressiveness. Drink this beauty over the next 10-15 years.”

2004 Grace Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Aromas of blackcurrant, maraschino cherry and toasty oak lifted by a floral topnote. Sweet and fat in the mouth, with red berry flavors complemented but not overwhelmed by notes of oaky torrefaction. Finishes persistent and aromatic, with very sweet, gentle tannins. 90-92 points

2004 Grace Family Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep red-ruby. Intriguing aromas of botanical herbs, dried flowers, mint and shiso leaf, with some intrusive nutty oak; this reminded me of a old-style Italian red. Then suave in texture, with good richness but also a firm edge to the flavors of cassis, kirsch and nutty oak.Falls down a bit on the finish, where the dusty tannins turn a bit dry. Lingering notes of licorice and dark chocolate. This seemed fresher and fuller in barrel last winter. ST

The nose was rich with notes of cherry, black currant, and a soft musty earth and eucalyptus aroma. The palate was of cherry, black currant with subtle oak tones near the finish. This wine has strong tannins for a big pucker holding up to the rich flavors that flow from your first sips to the last. It can definitely be described as chewy or thick in the mouth, very satisfying. The finish was a combination of cherry and a tangy grassy note with a smokey tobacco final finish. This one should be enjoyed...

Bright, saturated ruby-red. Deep aromas of black fruits, violet, tobacco, licorice, minerals, nuts and earth. Lush, rich and sweet, with an intriguing smoky character and lovely lightness for a wine with so much breadth and volume. Unusually powerful and deep for this bottling; complex and distinctive. In a rather Old World style, with complex soil tones currently dominating primary fruitiness. Finishes broad and dry, with very lush, fine tannins. A superb vintage for this estate. There are 110 cases of the 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon from this well-known site on the west side of Route 29, north of St. Helena. Its dark purple color is accompanied by aromas of lead pencil shavings, pure black currants, vanilla, and licorice. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with good underlying acidity, firmness, and an elegant, restrained, structured feel. It will be at its finest between 2005-2017.

(aging in 80% new Taransaud and Sylvain barrels) Deep, bright ruby-red. Highly complex aromas of raspberry, blackberry, boysenberry, mocha, minerals, tobacco and sexy, smoky oak. Broad and dense but airy, with lovely mineral lift to the berry and chocolate flavors. This rather powerful and highly promising wine finishes with serious, chewy tannins and excellent length. Winemaker Gary Brookman noted that the team here dropped crop three times but still brought in 13 tons of fruit for 3 acres; the...

Bid History for 1994 Grace Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa, Lot 29

Staglin has established themselves firmly in the minds of California Cab lovers as a top-notch cult producer. But it seems their Salus label has managed to fly a bit under the radar. Made by Fredrik Johansson from fruit raised by David Abreau, the 2006 Cabernet is quite lovely despite the season's late start. Black fruit aromas dominate the nose, which has complementary secondary scents of graphite, earth and bay. Italian Marasca cherry flavors upfront give way to rich plum, black cherry and blackberry...
