Dark, complex, mouthfilling, and rich, the Dry Creek Zinfandel is a classic example of why the Dry Creek Valley is so famous for intense zinfandels. The combination of black raspberry and chocolate flavors, combined with its velvety texture, make this a perfect wine for a wide variety of foods--from barbequed or grilled meats, to pastas with hearty sauces, or just by itself before a meal. This is the wine on which Dashe Cellars has made its reputation.

HISTORY With its picture-perfect ripening condition s and mild temperatures in the Fall, 2001 was an unbeatable year for zinfandel in the Dry Creek Valley. This year we included zinfandel from the superb Louvau vineyard on Dry Creek Road, in the center of the valley, along with the fruit from the Adams` ranches on West Dry Creek Road and Canyon Road, in upper Dry Creek Valley. This additional fruit from the center of Dry Creek gave the wine a depth of flavor and elegance that make it perfect both...

The perfect combination of two DCV vineyards, this is a claret style Zinfandel. Boasting aromas of strawberry and butterscotch, flavors of nutmeg and pomegranate and a finish with lively acidity that keeps coming back. The complexity of the fruit, aromas, and mouth feel will continue to evolve with bottle age and can easily “lay down” for up to 15 years. Try this Zinfandel with sausage, pasta, duck and olives.

Zinfandel Zinfandel is widely thought of as “America’s grape,” but in fact the variety is of Croatian origin, and is genetically extremely similar to Italian Primitivo, which thrives in the warmest parts of southern Italy. Like Primitivo, Zinfandel requires warm but not hot growing conditions, as its skins are relatively thin: this can cause its berries to shrivel into raisins if left on the vine a little... A stellar Dry Creek Zinfandel from a stellar vintage, this is a jet-black, delicious zin with loads of fruit flavors and a velvety, voluptuous texture. It has it all: balance, elegance, intensity, and complexity. We wish every vintage could be so easy to make wines as was the classic vintage of 2007.

91 points, Connoisseurs' Guide (Jan. 09): “Sweet and downright seductive with its concentrated aromas of caramel, blackberries and spice, this very rich, moderately full-bodied effort is uncannily well-balanced for the weighty wine that it is. Ripe, but never over the top, it is a big Zin meant to go with big foods, and its combination of strength and real fruity richness tag it as a sure winner with the likes of long-simmered, well-seasoned pork stews.”

The 2006 vintage in Dry Creek produced extremely balanced, luscious wine. The wine from Florence vineyard was particularly showy from the starteven in the fermenterwith its jet-black color, perfumed aromas of violets and lavender, and rich flavors of black raspberry, chocolate, and clove spice. The wine was fermented with only natural yeasts and the cap was submerged in the wine during the initial fermentation in order to extract color, flavor and tannins from the fruit. The wine was aged for ...

These wonderful 69-year-old vines were discovered by John Louvau on his newly-bought property in 1989, hidden beneath a field of weeds and blackberry vines that had grown over the old grapevines. Ecstatic over his discovery, John nursed the vines back to health and now they produce some of the best grapes on the entire property. These are classic old-vine zinfandel: head-trained, dry–farmed, with thick gnarled trunks popping out of fist-sized rocks that make up the old riverbed. They produce only...

Lovely raspberry aromas and dry, earthy aromatics greet the nose, followed by a moderate dose of oak. This medium-bodied Zin shows good acidity and tannins that are supportive yet unobtrusive. It has succulent, intense strawberry fruit on the palate, and a finish that is a touch compressed at the moment. Lingering earth and light toast notes frame the brambly fruit. This is an exceptionally civilized California Zinfandel.

From its cool and fog-enshrouded coastal regions on the far west, to the sprawling Alexander Valley on the boarder of Napa and the many little dips and peaks in between, Sonoma has been a vital wine-grape-growing region since the mid 1800s. Important sub-AVAs include Chalk Hill (known for chardonnay and sauvignon blanc), Dry Creek Valley (where zin is king) Knights Valley (largely cabernet...
